Thickwood is one of the largest communities in Fort McMurray, with a population of 17,300. It is located north of the Athabasca River. Thickwood Heights has 14 subdivisions, which include Signal Road, Westview, and Ross Haven, among others.
This community was formed in the 1970s and has now become the second largest community in Fort McMurray. It is minutes away from the main highway, Highway 63.

The community also offers plenty of amenities including retail, parks, services and churches. There are also many restaurants along Thickwood Boulevard: most notably a Tim Hortons and Dairy Queen.
