Anzac Highlights: Zee Bar & Grill

Home to the region’s best beef, bison and elk burgers

Great entertainment, delicious meals and a fresh perspective on the traditional pub fare are what guests can find at Anzac’s Zee Bar & Grill.

Located only a short 40-kilometre trip southeast from Fort McMurray at 240 Stony Mountain Road, Zee Bar & Grill welcomes locals living in the Anzac community and residents from the region’s largest city.

The Anzac community was established in 1979 and named for the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps during World War 1 when the Alberta and Great Waterways Railway was built from Carbondale to Waterways.

The area welcomes close-by tourists from its Fort McMurray neighbours in the summer from their day trips to Gregoire Lake and in the winter from outdoor enthusiasts on snowmobile adventures – whoever they are and where ever they’re from, the Zee Bar & Grill welcomes all.

In fact, the restaurant is so welcoming it offers a Weekend Helmet promotion that includes 15 percent off to any guest who drives in by bike, sled or quad.

On the Zee Bar & Grill’s Facebook page, it receives a 4.7-out-of-five rating based on the opinion of 23 people.

One guest reviewed the restaurant and stated he will keep going back for the friendly staff and top-notch menu items.

On the menu, it features a three-page list from appetizers to entrees. Chicken wings, party platters with dry ribs, popcorn shrimp, ‘AAA’ striploin marinated steaks and rice bowls are just a few of the many dishes available. But what guests say they do best is burgers.

All of their burgers are 8oz, hand-formed with 100 percent beef, bison or elk and served with lettuce, tomato and raw onion on a Kaiser bun with a choice of chipotle lime or roasted garlic aioli.

Beef burgers cost $11, the bison is $20, and elk costs $21. Guests can also make it a double for only five more dollars.

The restaurant’s most famous burger is The Behemoth. The Behemoth is their beast of burgers. It weighs over five pounds and costs $58.

If you want the bragging rights to taking on this burger, the restaurant will challenge its guests to complete it within a two-hour timeframe and if you eat it all, it’s on the House. Click here to read the Behemoth Challenge Rules.

The Zee Bar & Grill is open on Monday to Thursday from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. with the kitchen closing at 9 p.m.
