Inside Fort McMurray’s trendiest coffee shop

For over two years, Avenue Coffee has been mastering the art of brewing exceptional cups of hot and cold beverages at 8102 Fraser Avenue.

Dubbed as a “hip and trendy coffee shop and bakehouse,” its menu options offer the cups of classics with its specialty long blacks, espressos, lattes and macchiatos. As for the food options, lemon pistachio biscotti, almond croissants - or ones with ham and cheese – are just a few of the many delicacies offered within.

Avenue is settled in the heart of downtown at LIAM Construction’s most recent development project inside The River Station District and sits adjacent to TownHall Public House at the corner of Fraser Avenue and Marshall Street.

Upon arrival, guests are welcomed by the behind-the-counter baristas and introduced to a rustic ambiance from the coffee shop’s décor of clay brick, wood and black steel.

It features an open concept with plenty of seating space at the high-top and side-by-side tables. Each seating area offers public plug-ins and free WiFi services which makes it an ideal place to host business meetings or a place for students to study.

The back of the house offers a meeting space separated by sliding barn doors for guests to have more intimate and secluded conversations.

In Your McMurray Magazine’s ‘Makers of Fort McMurray’ article, it indicates the LIAM Construction father-and-son duo Bill and Liam de Silva built the design plan and concept with inspiration from a Calgary-based coffee shop franchise in Calgary called Analog.

“It took a long time, and we went to a lot of coffee shops,” de Silva told Your McMurray Magazine. “We went to Phoenix for one night and went to six coffee places. We went to Victoria to try and get a sense of things. And then, we settled on a coffee shop based in Calgary called Analog.”

The facility also offers an event space called The Station Event Centre and is connected to the coffee house. It’s available to host public and private events. Facility rentals include 66 chairs with round and rectangular tables. A projector and HDMI hook-up are also on-site. For an additional cost, guests can also receive catering services provided by Avenue Coffee.

According to Avenue Coffee’s Facebook page, it has a 4.9 out of five rating status based on the opinion of 106 people.”

Guests have also shared their love for Avenue Coffee’s latte art on Instagram by using the hashtag #AvenueCoffee. Some of the 1,222 hashtags (and counting) come from inside the local location and feature the artwork of bears and hearts – even the iconic Pink Panther – designed on microfoam by the baristas.
